4. 2013 Metro Times Mercantile Merry Market - Head over to the Detroit Mercantile Co. to pick up unique gifts from over 40 crafters, artists and vendors. December 14th.

5. Buy Detroit - Ride with the Detroit Bus Company on this "independent shopping excursion" that will take you to three different neighborhoods and plenty of shops and vendors. December 14—15.

1. Holiday Nights in Greenfield Village - Candle-lit paths, carriage and Model T rides, and live entertainment take you back to the holidays of the past. Santa, live reindeer, and fireworks cap off a fantastic evening. December 6-8, 13-15, 19-23 and 26-28.

2. Holiday Merriment at Ponyride - Eat, drink, and be merry at Ponyride's Open House and Makers Market featuring over 50 Detroit businesses. December 6th.

3. Signal-Return Holiday Party and Market - Head to the letterpress shop in Eastern Market for their second annual Holiday Card Jam. Enjoy food, wine, gifts, prints and local vendors. December 6th.

4. Detroit Urban Craft Fair - Now in its 8th year, Detroit's coolest craft fair sets up shop at the Masonic Temple. With over 100 vendors, you're sure to pick up some unique gifts for the holiday season. December 7—8.

5. 41st Annual Noel Night - Midtown is the place to be on Saturday night when our cultural institutions open thier doors to the public for free. Shopping, horse-drawn carriage rides, family craft activities and performances by over 200 area music, theatre, and dance groups. December 7th.

1. Failure:Lab Detroit - Head to the Opera House for a night of storytelling about personal failures. The six storytellers include Jessica Care Moore, Dwele and Charlie Wollborg. November 21st.

2. 2013 Detroit Tree Lighting Ceremony - The holiday season in Detroit has begun! The Christmas Tree in Campus Martius, decked out with 19,000 lights, will illuminate downtown. November 22nd.

3. Target Family Days at The Henry Ford - On the 50th anniversary of the assasination of John F. Kennedy, the museum is free as a tribute and rememberance. November 22nd.

4. Wild Lights - Get wild at the Detroit Zoo as over two million LED lights are strung on a half-mile trail. Activities include entertainment, arts and crafts, storytelling, ice carving and a Lego® holiday train display. November 23—24.

5. It's a Wonderful Life - Catch this holiday classic on the big screen with a special appearance by Karolyn Grimes who played Zuzu Bailey. November 22—23.

1. The Michigan Beer Film - Head to The Fillmore for a screening of this new independent film that celebrates the growth of the Michigan craft beer industry. November 7th.

2. Pewabic Pottery's Earthly Treasures - This annual holiday show features unique holiday gifts by over 100 ceramic artists. November 7th—December 30th.

3. Watch Me Move: The Animation Show - Who doesn't love animation? The most extensive animation show ever mounted is right in our backyard at the Detroit Institute of Arts and features work from the last 150 years. Through January 5, 2014.

4. Sensory-Friendly Skating Party - BonaVenture Family Skating Center is hosting a special session specifically for families with children who have special needs. The lights will be brighter, there won't be an flashing lights or fog and the music will be quieter. This is open to the public. November 10th.

5. Lost Mariners Remembrance - The annual program remembering lost mariners of the Great Lakes takes place at Dossin Great Lakes Museum on Belle Isle. November 10th.
