Detroit: News You Can Use - Fish & Food edition

All  hail Zombo!

Detroit’s carnival extravaganza, Theatre Bizarre heads back to the Masonic Temple for “The Summoning” on October 20th. Tickets went on sale this past weekend exclusively at the Rust Belt Market in Ferndale. For those who haven’t procured the much sought after tickets, follow the Theatre Bizarre Facebook page. They said more tickets will be available in September, around my favorite street fest of the year, the DIY Street Fair.

From the good news files.

The Belle Isle Aquarium—which has been closed since 2005 except for special events—will reopen to the public three days a month starting in September.

More good news.

The lovely people from Russell Street Deli in Eastern Market are opening up a vegetarian and vegan spot in Midtown. Topsoil will open in the fall and will offer sandwiches, wraps, salads and soup along with a hot dish or two.

Speaking of food.

Detroit Restaurant Week’s fall dates are Friday, September 28th through Sunday, October 7th. Wait! Their site has been hacked so proceed with caution. According to their Facebook page, they haven’t uploaded the menus yet.

Projects we can get behind.

Thousands of sticks of chalk + people + 4 miles of sidewalk = Hopscotch Detroit. How fun is that? Come together and help make the world’s longest hopscotch possible on September 22nd.

Want to learn more about Detroit destinations? The Detroit Mobile Audio Tour will allow you to use your mobile phone to find out about “must see” spots in the city.

Sad to see it go.

We also have a bit of bad news. Leopold’s Books is closing its doors for good on September 22nd.
