2. Singing in the Rain - What a glorious feeling! Usher in spring with this classic in the beautiful Redford Theatre. March 28—29.

3. Dossin Invitational Regatta - Stroke! Crews from the Detroit Boat Club, St. John’s Jesuit Academy and St. Ursula Academy will kick off the races at 10 a.m., starting at the Detroit Yacht Club and ending in front of the Detroit Boat Club on Belle Isle. March 29th. 

4. Detroit Bike City Expo - 100,000 square feet of bikes! Head to Cobo Center if you prefer to see the city on two wheels. March 29th.

5. Samurai: Beyond the Sword - Go beyond the stereotype and explore an in-depth look at the real samurai and their cultural significance. Through June 1st.

1. Smokin' Jazz - Enjoy local jazz, barbecue, soul food and Michigan beers! Also, BBQ spare rib and fried chicken competitions. March 20th.

2. Freep Film Festival - The Detroit Film Theatre and Fillmore Detroit host this innagural festival of Detroit and Michigan-themed documentaries. March 20—23.

3. Walk Detroit - Join the Detroit Experience Factory in a free walking tour of downtown Detroit featuring gems such as the Gaurdian Building and Paradise Valley. March 22nd.

4. Detroit Derby Girls - Head to the Masonic Temple for the Detroit Allstars home opener versus Tampa Bay. March 22nd.

5. Marche du Nain Rouge - The Nain Rouge, the malevolent dwarf who’s haunted Detroit since the days of Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac, must be banished from the city. March 23rd.

Bonus: A friendly reminder that the Belle Isle Aquarium is open on Saturdays from 10am—3pm and it's free!

1. The Cocktail Hour: Mad Men Era - Head to the DSO and transport yourself back in time with the hot hits of the 60s in this "Mad Men musical cocktail." March 14—16.

2. Foto Europa: 1840 to Present - Check out some of Europe’s most well-known artists and photographers including Julia Margaret Cameron, Eugène Atget, HenriCartier-Bresson, Robert Frank and more. Through April 27th.

3. Irish Cake Walk - Start St. Patrick's Day a wee bit early with Irish foods, Gaelic dancers, music and cake. It's like musical chairs but with cake! March 15th.

4. Brain Day - Hold a real human brain! Neuroscientists from Wayne State University head up this event at the Michigan Science Center where you'll learn all about the brain. March 15th.

5. Detroit St. Patrick's Day Parade - Corktown is the place to be to get your Irish on! Celebrate all things green in Detroit's oldest neighborhood. March 16th.

1. VLNTNSDYMRKT 2 - Stop by this indie Valentine's Day market at eight & sand and pick up something unique for your sweetheart. February 13th.

2. Dirty Show - Valentine's Day + Detroit = the Dirty Show. This annual exotic art exhibition takes place at the Russell Industrial Center this year. Through February 15.

3. 2014 Academy Award® Nominated Short Films - Catch the Oscar nominated shorts—both animated and live-action—in one sitting at the Detroit Film Theatre. February 14—16.

4. Casablanca - "Of all the gin joints, in all the towns, in all the world, she walks into mine…" Head to the Redford Theatre for a FREE showing of this classic. February 14—15.

5. The Ark's Storytelling Festival - Now in its 27th year, The Ark celebrates the "oldest of all arts" with storytellers from Colorado, Oklahoma and Ann Arbor. February 15th.

1. Drawing in the Galleries - Head to the DIA and create a masterpiece! Artist/instructors will be on hand to help participants create pencil drawings to take home. February 2nd.

2. Winter Blast - Campus Martius is the place to be this weekend for winter fun. Activities include free skating, a snow slide, snowshoeing and more. February 7—9.

3. Dirty Show - February + Detroit = the Dirty Show. This annual exotic art exhibition takes place at the Russell Industrial Center this year. February 7—15.

4. Wish Upon a Butterfly - Take cover from the snow and freezing cold and walk among the butterflies. Watch them being hand fed and learn about their life cycle from catepillar to beautiful butterfly. Through June 1.
