Elvis, Pierogies, & Art
So, what’s going on in Detroit this weekend? Plenty! There are always festivals going on in the summer in Metro Detroit but I think the following list is quite diverse.
Hydroplane races return to the Detroit River with the Chrysler Jeep Superstores Detroit APBA Gold Cup; July 10-12. General admission ticket prices are $15 for all 3 days but there are also discount tickets available for the unemployed.
The American Polish Festival is taking place this year at the American Polish Century Club; July 10-12. Last year they served 20,000 pierogies! Check out the event schedule, which includes The Polish Muslims.
Michigan Elvisfest is descending on Ypsilanti to celebrate the King of Rock and Roll; July 10-11. It takes place in Riverside Park on the banks of the Huron River and is billed as the “best and largest tribute concert in North America.” Sounds like a lot of fun and an opportunity to snap some great pictures.
Taylor Summertime Fun Festival; July 10-12. This doesn’t seem to be your average community festival; they have mud volleyball tournaments, a BBQ cook off, and a No-Limit Texas Hold’em Tournament.
The Royal Oak Outdoor Art Fair is a juried event taking place at Memorial Park; July 11-12. The fair features both fine art and crafts.
I mean, how do you choose between fabulous Polish food, Elvis, and boats? What are your plans for the weekend?

We're considering running down to Maumee (Ohio) for the lighthouse festival...with I-75 open all the way down to Toledo now, it's a quicker trip than having to take the I-275 detour down to Toledo.
We've been to the Royal Oak Art Fair a few times, and it's a nice enough show if you haven't been in a while. Elvis and/or pierogis sound interesting...a friend of mine used to bring me homemade pierogis from her yearly church fair, but I think the fair went kaput :(
Dominque,
Well, being 100% Polish and having a sister-in-law who is from Poland (I like to say she's from the mother country), I've had many a pierogi throughout the years. Still love 'em though! I thought the Elvisfest would be interesting, as well. We haven't solidified our plans for the weekend yet.
