Recap: The Dream Cruise is Going to the Dogs
The Woodward Dream Cruise is over for another year. The residents of the Woodward Corridor from Ferndale to Pontiac get their fabulous avenue back to themselves, no more sharing it with screeching tires and smelly exhaust fumes.
I wrote about the Dream Cruise last week and just have a few final comments to make.
First off, I understand that this is not everyone’s thing. My aim was only to point out how much positive attention and money this event generates for our area.
Secondly, I’m not impressed with Birmingham’s decision to not be officially a part of the Dream Cruise. Many of the local businesses in downtown Birmingham weren’t as busy as in years past. Previously, lovely old cars were parked all over the downtown area, which brought a ton more foot traffic to the local establishments.
I spent a few hours Saturday afternoon at the cruise without the husband, as he was working. I had a great time snapping photos and recording video footage. I ran into friends I haven't seen since before I moved to England and I even went up in the air on a hyraulic lift to see the cruising action from 50 feet above Woodward Avenue.
The husband did manage to make it out later in the night and enjoyed the cruise for a few brief moments. To be fair, he was extremely tired and in pain from working.
He liked the custom cars, the atmosphere, and the people watching. "People watching" is a polite way of saying pointing and laughing. However, he couldn't understand why modern cars were also cruising down Woodward. Hopefully, next year he’ll be able to take in more of the Dream Cruise.
So, I just thought I’d share some of my favorite photos from the cruise. I do believe I encountered two of the smartest dogs ever.
I had to include at least one photo of a car, right?

I love the Triumph! Nice car! I like the cruise but I enjoy it better through someone else's eyes. MIchael Rawley took a ton of pictures and I was grateful to see them that way. I just didn't want to be in the crowds this year. Plus, I had to work and I usually go to a party in Grand Blanc so I usually avoid it.
I love the Hot Rod's from a distance.
I remember saying to Tim that there seemed to be even fewer "classic" cars than in years past when we were out there on Friday evening. Friends who go out each year with their '59 Lincoln said the same thing when I saw them Saturday evening. I wonder if $$$ in general stopped a lot of the out-of-town folks from coming in as usual?
Cool shot you got from the lift!
The dog in the pile of ice is great. I could have used that therapy on Saturday as well. We went across the street to a neighbor's party. Great times
I love the cruise - hubby hates the inconvience (we live about 1 mile off Woodward....I saw lots of great stuff...people too :P No dogs on ice though - that is great!
As for out of towners - I had read in the paper that there were actually more than usual...wonder if they just meant as spectators. I recall many out of towners with their cars in years past...they tend to cut through our street from 696, so we can almost watch the cruise from our front porch LOL!
