Bombing Detroit & Other Stories
Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at 1:33AM | Becks Davis
Spring brings renewal and growth, right? Well, I’ve found a few fabulous Detroit stories and events that have sprung up on the web and I just had to share them with you. Enjoy!
- Bomb Detroit! from Sweet Juniper! - Jim Griffioen is beautifying Detroit by tossing wildflower seed bombs on some unsightly areas of the city. I love this!
- A Brit in Detroit Has No Requiem - My husband, Andy Davis, wrote this amazing post as a response to the BBC documentary "Requiem for Detroit." To say that I'm proud is an understatement. It should be noted that I had nothing to do with this and didn't even realize what he was doing when he said he was writing a blog post.
- Detroit Tigers Opening Day - Nikki Stephan explores how different people celebrate and prepare for our favorite unofficial spring holiday. It's only a few days away!
- Where I live: All aboard for Thomas the Tank Engine's annual visit to Michigan's Greenfield Village - I'm not a parent but I'm sure all those of you who are will want to mark these dates in your calendar. Actually, now that I'm thinking about it my husband may want to visit with Thomas!
- Spring Comes to Belle Isle - I've spent a lot of time on Belle Isle but most of it has been in the winter staring at a certain Ice Tree. So, it was a wonderful change to see these photos of the first blooms on our island park.
- Scions of Detroit Families Share Hockey Passion - The N.C.A.A. Frozen Four takes place at Ford Field this weekend. The co-chairmen of the event, William Clay Ford Jr. and Christopher Illitch, talk about their love of hockey.
- A Tour of Detroit - Oh, and I wrote this guest post over at Icrontic.com. It's an overview of some of my favorite places in Detroit.

Great collection of articles. Thanks so much for including mine from Metromix! And nice job on the Icrontic guest post. :)
I loved your husband's post- is it ok if I'm proud of him, too? As for spring flowers on Belle Isle, volunteers from the Belle Isle Botanical Society, Friends of Belle Isle, Belle Isle Women's Committee, and Master Gardeners planted over 3,000 bulbs on the island last fall. I can't wait to see what else comes up. (and thanks for the mention!)
Your favorite carpenter framed it well with words this time, nailing them straight and true.
"All [Detroit] needs is self-belief" is a good rallying cry, and Andy it delivers it in a strong voice.
So yes, feel proud.
Thanks for including my post about Thomas on your list. I always thought Andy might be a big kid at heart :)
Thanks Nikki and you're most welcome! You got me all excited for the Tigers home opener.
Belle Isle,
Yep, you can be proud of him too. Great to hear about all the bulbs that were planted. I love Spring!
Alan,
You have a great way with words!
Dominique,
Uh huh, Andy is just a big kid at heart. We've actually decided that he's a 6 year old. :)
