Detroit Moxie's Weekend Roundup
Yep, it’s pretty damn cold in Detroit! However, this weekend the forecast is promising a heat wave with temperatures in the 30’s. Time to break out the shorts and flip-flops? Maybe not. But there are still tons of fun things to do in the D this weekend. Check it out!

1. Motown Winter Blast - Campus Martius is the coolest spot in Detroit this weekend. Take a ride down The Ambassador Bridge Snow Slide, free ice skating, snowshoeing, marshmallow roasting, music and more. February 11-13.
2. The Dirty Show - A Valentine’s Day tradition in Detroit, this is one of the largest erotic art exhibitions in the world. February 11-19.
3. Worlds Largest Group Hug - Inside Detroit is organizing this big cuddle in an attempt to set a Guinness World Record. February 12. (Be sure to check out the free walking tours they are offering on February 12 & 13 too!)
4. 2011 Academy Award Nominated Short Films - And the nominees are… View both the animated and live-action nominees and predict the winners. February 11-13 and 18-20.
5. Sustainable Living Family Festival - Creativity and learning new skills will be explored. Green cleaning, beekeeping, sustainable family activities, food, city chickens and more will be discussed in this family friendly workshop. February 12th.
6. Untapped Talent Showcase - Head down to PJ’s Lager House in Corktown and discover new artists. Emilio Basa, Lisa Hurt, Kent Koller, Mic Phelps, and D.Allie will be performing. February 10th.

And for those looking to give some love this Valentine's Day (it is better to give than receive, remember?) here are two other events to round out the list:
Covenant House Michigan Share Your Love for Homeless Youth on Sat 2/12 from 10 am to 2 pm at CHM Main Campus on MLK Blvd in Detroit. It's an open house and service day, toiletry donations are gratefully accepted, find volunteer projects and take a ride with the Street Outreach Unit which travels the city each day assisting homeless young people. Giggles and Gloves to benefit Mittens for Detroit and Crossroads of Michigan, Sat 2/12 at 8 pm at MGM Casino Detroit. Comics, music and more, featuring Detroit 1-8-7 star Shaun Mujumder as headlining comedian. Hosted by Detroit 1-8-7 actress and Mittens for Detroit founder, Erin Cummings. Tickets are $10 and available through www.mittensfordetroit.org.
