Wienermobile wrap-up & a giveaway!
The Wienermobile made a stop in Detroit last week and it brought out the newest member of its family, the Wienermobile Food Truck, to join in the fun. Free Oscar Mayer hot dogs were given away with special toppings created by Brian Perrone, chef at Slows Bar BQ.
I’ll admit, I went up for seconds and had two dogs topped with chorizo queso fundido. I’m still craving them.
Besides the franks, the highlight of the day was taking a ride in the legendary Wienermobile. The first incarnation of the hot dog on wheels was introduced in 1936 and it’s been through many versions since. There’s even a Mini Wienermobile built on a Mini Cooper Chassis. How cute!
Of course, Detroiters might be familiar with the 1952 edition that is housed at The Henry Ford. That edition is built on a Dodge chassis and was the first fleet to have a sound system and sunroof.
The Hotdoggers, Ketchup Kylie and Delicous Dylan took Elena from Mommyisintimeout.com, her two sons and myself on a spin around the streets of downtown Detroit.
The one-way streets confused our driver, Kylie, for a bit. As we were heading west on Jefferson, I leaned over to Elena and said, “we should have them take the tunnel.” Kylie seemed pretty excited about taking the vehicle through a tunnel until I casually mentioned that it led to Canada. Then her and Dylan freaked out about not being able to leave the country. I was just kidding!
The Hotdoggers had just graduated from Hot Dog U a few days prior and were full of fun and puns. It’s a much sought after position with only 12 Hotdoggers chosen each year to tour around the country in the 6 Wienermobiles.

my favorite kidlet snack was a hot dog with ketchup and lots of black pepper.
My favorite childhood snack would have to be blue moon ice cream from the Mom & Pop ice cream shop in "town". Growing up in a small town was awesome. My little sis and I could ride our bikes to the shop on our own. :) Ah, memories!
My favorite snack food had to have been Swiss Cake Rolls I used to eat those all the time.
Frozen Hostess Ho Ho's....back in the good old days when they were wrapped in tin foil!
This used to be my childhood snack
Oreos. I still have an Oreo addiction I am trying to kick.
My mom used to make popsicles from Kool-Aid and Jello... she'd use like banana-strawberry Jello and fruit punch Kool-Aid, even portions, then pour the liquid into plastic dixie cups, chill for a while, place popsicle sticks in and freeze the rest of the way... All the neighborhood kids would come over for a Big "D" (Diane) Kool-Aid popsicle. They were neighborhood famous!
Love the Detroit Moxie! XOXO
I shudder now to think of it, but I used to LOVE a piece of soft white bread spread with Miracle Whip. Just an open-faced Miracle Whip sandwich!!
My favorite snack was a peanut butter and marshmallow fluff sandwich on white bread. Even better if we had bananas to add to it. Makes me sick to think of it today.
Without a doubt, my favorite treat as a kid was when my grandmother made us cinnamon toast. She would toast the bread, butter it right away so it would melt, and sprinkle on some cinnamon and sugar. So simple, but so great.
My favorite snack was the Marathon Bar. It was a long candy bar-- chocolate and caramel.
I loved (and still do) mac 'n cheese with cut up hotdogs in it! Thanks!
I have to narrow it down to one snack?! : ) I'd have to say Doritos - the originals, before all the fancy flavors came out!
Great site, Becks - and great giveaway!
I will be tweeting momentarily!
Thanks -

As a child growing up in the city of Detroit, my favorite snack was a boloney sandwich with ketchup but it had to be Wonder bread and nothing else.
my favorite snack as a kid was laffy taffy & swedish fish from grindley park market in DH : )
My favorite snack as a kid had to be cherry tomatoes, picked right from my grandpa's garden - the best part of summer!
My favorite snack was stove-top popcorn with melted butter and Parmesan cheese on top!!! Wait, that's STILL my favorite snack!! :)
My favorite childhood snack? A bagel, with thick slices of cheese in between the halves, microwaved to gooey perfection!
Peace
Ty
Surprisingly, my favorite snack as a kid was cold hotdogs and cubes of cheese on a toothpick. I even remember taking that as my birthday treat in kindergarten, though I can't say I'd eat it now!
