Wienermobile wrap-up & a giveaway!
The Wienermobile made a stop in Detroit last week and it brought out the newest member of its family, the Wienermobile Food Truck, to join in the fun. Free Oscar Mayer hot dogs were given away with special toppings created by Brian Perrone, chef at Slows Bar BQ.
I’ll admit, I went up for seconds and had two dogs topped with chorizo queso fundido. I’m still craving them.
Besides the franks, the highlight of the day was taking a ride in the legendary Wienermobile. The first incarnation of the hot dog on wheels was introduced in 1936 and it’s been through many versions since. There’s even a Mini Wienermobile built on a Mini Cooper Chassis. How cute!
Of course, Detroiters might be familiar with the 1952 edition that is housed at The Henry Ford. That edition is built on a Dodge chassis and was the first fleet to have a sound system and sunroof.
The Hotdoggers, Ketchup Kylie and Delicous Dylan took Elena from Mommyisintimeout.com, her two sons and myself on a spin around the streets of downtown Detroit.
The one-way streets confused our driver, Kylie, for a bit. As we were heading west on Jefferson, I leaned over to Elena and said, “we should have them take the tunnel.” Kylie seemed pretty excited about taking the vehicle through a tunnel until I casually mentioned that it led to Canada. Then her and Dylan freaked out about not being able to leave the country. I was just kidding!
The Hotdoggers had just graduated from Hot Dog U a few days prior and were full of fun and puns. It’s a much sought after position with only 12 Hotdoggers chosen each year to tour around the country in the 6 Wienermobiles.

Seriously... Lucky Charms. Hands down.
Better Made BBQ chips!
My favorite snack growing up? Ramen noodles. Salty cheap goodness!
One of my favorite childhood snacks was to smash Bettermade chips between pieces of bread for a great, crunchy sandwich. To go with the hot dog theme, I use to make baked beans with cut up hot dogs at least twice a week! Now I'm hungry...brb.
Push-ups! They were the only orange-flavored ice cream I liked (still to this day), but every time the ice cream truck rolled around that's what we went for, all five of us girls. :D Supposedly they were sherbet, not ice cream, but they were a little more creamy than the sherbet we bought in the store which made them ever so much better.
Rice Krispie Treats. Hands down.
I loved grilled cheese! What do I mean loved... I still do!
don't eww me - a Jiffy white cake mix raw.
My favorite was melting shredded cheese in a cup and eating the oozing mess with a spoon!
Rudy's hot dogs in Toledo! When I was 4 my hot dog was being delivered (I swear) in slow motion to my table as I knelt on the booth bench wiggling and insisting I did NOT have to go to the bathroom. Hot dog placed in front of me (yum!) but really needed to pee. No problem! I was up on my knees and had a sundess on so ....... Yes. I started eating my hot dog as I peed in the booth. I don't care how embarrassing that story is or how many times my family tries to humiliate me with it, Rudy's hot dogs clearly rocked and still do! A Detroiter since I was 7, I will forever be a Rudy's girl.
bacon sushi... i would take a piece of bacon, microwave it and use it like seaweed with rice to make a piece of sushi. i used to love those as a kid, but now im vegetarian.
My favorite food as a kiddo was cottage cheese and noodles, I still love it today!
My favorite childhood snack was fresh picked rhubarb
Soupy Sales was on TV at lunchtime when I was a kid and I walked home from school for lunch. So I had "Lunch with Soupy" and I'd have whatever he was having!
My favorite food as a kid was hot dogs! Favorite snack was potato chips--goes great w/ hot dogs.
I liked the "Funny Face" breakfast @ Denny's. We would go after church on Sunday mornings, and I always ordered the same thing. So yummy!
