Graffiti behind glass: The Woodward Windows
While visiting the Schwankovsky in downtown Detroit last week, I had to stroll a few feet south and take a look at the Woodward Windows.
In another instance of authorized street art, 323 East Gallery of Royal Oak and SCM Studios have partnered up to brighten the empty storefronts on the 1400 block of Woodward Avenue. Artists Malt, Fel 3000, Kobie Solomon and Sintex are showing off their skills.
I apologize that the photos aren’t my best work—I haven’t mastered the shooting-through-glass thing yet. This is only a tease anyway, go take a walk and check them out yourself.
The Woodward Windows are located on the east side of Woodward Avenue just south of John R.

I love the Woodward windows. Then again, I love quality graffiti and make it a point to find it everywhere I go. The whole group threw down and now Malt is in NYC doing a piece for HGTV.
If you haven't check out the Kobie Solomon mural in Delray on the north side of "Game Lounge" I think it is... about 10 blocks south of the Dix/Vernor intersection. Right beside a coney island.
Jsinghur,
Very cool that Malt is doing something for HGTV. Any info on when that might air? Thanks for the tip about the Kobie Solomon mural, I'll go search it out!
I'm not sure. @1XRUN posted a twitpic. Might want to check with them or @323East.
Great post Becks. Always love enjoying the graffiti downtown. Haven't seen some of these yet.
What are you talking about "sorry for the quality?" This is fantastic work Becks!
Interesting story that Jesse Cory told us, they didn't plan the wheat paste images to go up (the ones with "I'll never give up on you" and "I Dig Boy Gov")... while Kobe and Malt were painting some dude walked up and wanted to be a part of it so he started sticking his stuff up. Wouldn't really give his name, just wanted to be a part of something cool.
I think that's a really great example of how something like this can draw out that creative spirit in others. Hopefully this can happen on a grand scale.
Aw, thanks Matt! I just didn't spend as much time as I would've liked on the shots. Great story about the wheat paste images. I LOVE that it inspired someone else to join in.
This is so dope! Thanks for sharing!
