So, EnoLa, let me get this straight. You like looking at a window that had a single "Detroit Dairy" sign hanging in it and another that had Easter displays? With fashion sense like that I see why you have disdain for CityLoft.
Funny guy. OK, Papa. Put down your can of Ensure and listen closely. If you were paying attention you would know that more than a month ago a local artist, (Mike Han) in cooperation with 323 East Gallery in Ferndale orchestrated an art installation called "Woodward Windows." It was a curated (with-permission) 4-window display of street art by local artists of some reputation in popular culture. This was across the street from the newly-installed homage to fashion called "City Loft" on Woodward. The school marm of this blog had many nice things to say about the "Windows" at that time.
You are welcome to continue to enjoy the hollow aesthetics of consumerism now on display up and down the block in the wake of style and good taste coming back downtown.
The real art was buffed, snuffed and covered up.
EnoLa,
There is much afoot at Woodward Windows and I'm not sure you have the complete picture. It wasn't "buffed, snuffed and covered up." Stay tuned for more info.
Yes, I love the Woodward Windows project AND retail in downtown Detroit.
School marm? Ha! Very nice.
I will enjoy the much better looking windows, and your continued pouting about it, Enola. I'll take retail and consumerism (and the money it brings) downtown over a non-revenue generating window display any day of the week.
. . . and there you have it, folks. Wisdom from the mouth of your BgPaPa -- the very important rea$on that arts are the first thing cut from budgets. Nothing must stand in the way of commerce and money changing hands in chasing after economic growth. Hasn't worked to everyone's benefit in Detroit for the last 40 years. Won't work now.
Forgive me, PaPa for forgetting that money is what makes life worth living.
