Local libations are the star at Sip of Michigan
My friends at Drink Michigan are celebrating their two-year birthday with their ‘Sip of Michigan’ bash at The Rattlesnake Club! Audrey Walker and Trisha Verma are the lovely ladies behind Drink Michigan and I’m lucky to call them friends.
In case you didn’t know, Drink Michigan celebrates all of our local wine, beer and spirits in a friendly way. They’re not drink snobs, they won’t crinkle up their nose and judge you on your poor taste of beverage. (Well, they might if your sipping on a Bud Light.) Nope, they just love Michigan and all of the magical beverages that are made here.
Sip of Michigan promises to be the biggest party of the summer featuring the best beer, wine and spirits from our lovely state plus fabulous food from The Rattlesnake Club and live band karaoke. Oh, and just so you know, this isn’t your mama’s karaoke. Nope, you’ll be singing along with a live, rocking band.
The proceeds from the event benefit First Step in Wayne County.
The mission of First Step is to reduce the incidence of domestic and sexual violence and to provide services to individuals affected by these crimes. Prevention of domestic and sexual violence through education, advocacy and appropriate intervention is the ultimate goal of First Step. This is a cause that Audrey and I believe strongly in – they provide an invaluable service to women, children, and men in Wayne County who are trying to escape negative situations and create new lives. ~Trisha Verma
Tickets for Sip of Michigan on July 13th are $50 and include 35 drink tickets (1 ticket per 2oz. sample/3 tickets per full pour). All that plus the heavy appetizers and the live entertainment.
Would you like to go to this fine event for FREE? Yeah, I thought you might. Well, you’re in luck. Detroit Moxie is giving away 2 tickets to the event to one lucky reader.

Love me some Vanilla Java Porter from Atwater.
Arcturos Late Harvest Riesling from Black Star Farms (with some of that Raclette cheese!)
I love wine from L Mawby.
I love the People Mover Porter from the Detroit Beer Company. Make my Friday afternoons much better.
I love Bell's beer (Two Hearted, anyone?), which is available all over, but when I'm on that side of town, I stop at Kuhnhenn Brewery in Warren.
The Bellaire Brown is quite delicious and I love a glass of the Chateau Grand Traverse Chardonnay...yum! ;)
My fav brewery is a tie between Bell's & Founder's
Oh dear...I tweeted before posting! eeps!
I love Short's brewery... and Founder's but I have a friend who works there, so I am a little bias!
I love Shorts and Right Brain!!!
My favorite Brewery is Fort Street Brewery in Lincoln Park, Mi. I love the various weekly tapped brews.
My favorite winery is St. Julian Winery. I love anything they sell!! :)
Favorite beer is tough, but I love Dragonmead. Only been there once, but they have such a variety of quality beers. My favorite Dragonmead brew is Final Absolution.
A glass of Brys Estate Pinot Noir Riesling sounds good to me! (I know it sounds like an odd combination, but it is a tasty dream for those of us who like both of those varietals.)
Bell's is always a favorite - double cream stout!
I also tweeted! I am @mehalv.
I love me some Round Barn & DiVine Vodka.
So happy to be back in Michigan after barely surviving a year living out of state without my beloved Huma-Lupa-Licious from Short's. (Fortunately, I was able to find some staple items from Bell's and Founders, but also missed my favorites from Right Brain, OG, and Odd Side...).
Short's wins the brewery contest (you can never have too much of The Soft Parade! -- well, okay, at 9% alcohol, *maybe* you can :), and I'm also a big fan of Valentine Distilling Co.
Founders Brewery and Atwater...Double Trouble is a pretty great IPA!
I was introduced to Founders Breakfast Ale last fall while playing disc golf on Belle Isle. I fell in love with it that day and my life has not been the same since. Thank you magical Founders fairy.
