1. Harvest Moon Celebration - Head to downtown Farmington for food pairings, craft cider, ales, wine, mead and entertainment. September 26—28.

2. Fall Flavor Weekends - Celebrate the season at Greenfield Village with cooking demonstrations, farmers market, Local Roots product sampling and more. September 28—29, October 5—6.

3. Garden Bowl's 100th Anniversary Party - Knock some pins down at the "bowling bash of the century!" Festivities include family fun with cartoons and a bouncy house on the lanes, Throwback Retro Bowl and screenings of The Big Lebowski and King Pin. September 28th.

4. Hockeytown BrewHaHa Oktoberfest - The Detroit Red Wings play host to this craft beer fest with food trucks from the Grindhouse, Green Zebra and the Mac Shack. October 28th.

5. Three Corpse Circle International Horror Film Festival - Tis' the season for short horror films from around the world, a zombie walk for hunger and costume contests. September 28th.

1. Eastern Market After Dark - Explore Eastern Market after the sun goes down as creatives, galleries, entrepreneurs and makers open their doors for extended hours. Septemeber 19th.

2. Detroit Design Festival - Detroit's creative community is on display at the third annual event featuring 60 events hosted in neighborhoods across Detroit. Septemeber 18—22.

3. R. Park Festival - Head to Roosevelt Park for the Detroit Cornhole Championship, roller skating in front of Michigan Central Station, a firefighter cook-off between Detroit firehouses, kids activities and entertainment. September 22nd.

4. Tashmoo Biergarten heads to Belle Isle - Our favorite biergarten is on the road to our island park for an end-of-summer celebration. Craft beer, food and games. September 21st.

5. The Thunderdrome! - The once-abandoned Dorais Velodrome is the place to be for all kinds of racing—including mopeds, scooters, go-karts, bicycles and mini-bikes—and a fabulous good time! September 21—22.

1. DIY Street Fair - Celebrate the do-it-yourself attitude with artists, crafters, musicians, beer and food! This Ferndale fest is one of my favorite events of the year. September 13—15.

2. Global Fridays - Head over to the Arab American National Museum for Cheick Hamala Diabate (Malian griot), part of the Concert of Colors Series. Enjoy a blend of music and storytelling from one of Mali’s most storied musical families. September 13th.

3. The Music Man - The gorgeous Redford Theatre will show this classic starring Shirley Jones on the big screen and Ms. Jones will be there in person. September 13—15.

4. St. Jerome's Laneway Festival - Australia's indie music festival makes its U.S. debut at Meadow Brook Music Festival. Featuring Matthew Dear, Savages, Frightened Rabbit, the Detroit Party Marching Band and more! September 14th.

5. 2013 Victorian Festival - Step back in time as Northville celebrates its history and heritage with a parade, crafts, vintage baseball, hot air balloon rides and a petting farm. September 13—15.

1. UniverSoul Circus Detroit - The circus is in town! Head to the big top in Chene Park for this interactive combination of circus arts, theater, and music including Pop, Classic R&B, Latin, Hip Hop, Jazz and Gospel. September 5—15.

2. Arts & Apples Festival - Now in its 48th year, the juried fine arts festival features local entertainment, a Kids Art Zone, Activity Zone, food courts and apples! September 6—8.

3. Dally in the Alley - There is no other fest like the Dally! Celebrate the Cass Corridor neighborhood with local musicians, artists, restaurants and vendors. September 7th.

4. Tour Frank Lloyd Wright’s Smith House - I've talked about the Smith House before but now you can get inside of the house that Wright called, "My little gem." September 8th and October 13th.

5. Old Car Festival - The grounds of Greenfield Village are the perfect setting to view cars from the 1890s through 1932. September 7—8.

1. Arts, Beats & Eats - Royal Oak hosts this annual Labor Day fest, now in its 16th year. Over 200 performances on 10 stages, a juried art show, food from local restaurants and more. August 30—September 2.

2. 2013 Detroit Jazz Festival - Stretching from Campus Martius to Hart Plaza, downtown Detroit will be filled with jazz of all forms perfomed by national and local acts. August 30—September 2.

3. Hamtramck Labor Day Festival - Head to Hamtown for entertainment, cheap beer, yacht races down Jos. Campau, the Golab-K 5K run, carnival rides and Polish food! August 31—September 2.

4. Michigan State Fair - Celebrate Michigan agriculture at the new State Fair featuring livestock, carnival rides and games, a Michigan beer garden, and the Shrine Circus. August 30—September 2.

5. Watch your Mines! - Learn about salt, gold and silver mines—and the Detroit salt mines—at this kid-friendly event at the Michigan Science Center. August 31—September 1.

6. Park It Family Fun Night - Milliken State Park is the setting for an outdoor concert, activities for the kids and an evening screening of Despicable Me. August 29th.
